Namesake

McClendon Elementary opened its doors in 1998. The building is named for Carylene McClendon. She was inducted into the Community ISD Hall of Honor during the 2017-18 academic year. You can read about her life and career on the graphic below. A plaque with the same information hangs outside the CHS auditorium.

In 2001, an additional wing was added to the building that included eight classrooms. Prior to the 2023-24 academic year, the school underwent significant renovations to modernize the campus.
